Disney Changes New Movie Dates, Drops Artemis Fowl to Disney+

Disney today announced that it now plans for Mulan to premier in theaters on July 24, which was previously meant to be the release date of the Jungle Cruise movie, whose release date has been pushed all the way back to July 30, 2021.

Disney will now also debut Artemis Fowl directly on Disney+, a move that could irk some cinema owners.

“With audiences largely unable to attend theatres in the current environment, we are thrilled to offer the premiere of Artemis Fowl on Disney+,” said Ricky Strauss, President, Content & Marketing for Disney+. “Director Kenneth Branagh and his spectacular cast take viewers right into the vibrant, fantasy world of the beloved book, which fans have been waiting to see brought to life onscreen for years. It’s great family entertainment that is the perfect addition to Disney+’s summer lineup.”

Other notable delays from Disney include the Black Widow’s theatrical premiere having been pushed to November 6 and the untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie going from July 9th, 2021 to July 29th, 2022.

Black Panther 2’s May 8th, 2022 release date remains unchanged, but Captain Marvel will open two weeks early on July 8th, 2022.
