Disney World can’t reopen until April 9 at earliest

Walt Disney World won’t be opening on April 1st as previously planned. Tuesday evening, Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer handed down a “stay at home” mandate in an attempt to combat the rapidly-expanding coronavirus pandemic.

The order, which begins this Thursday and goes through April 9th, means that all theme parks, amusement rides, and water parks are considered non-essential businesses that must temporarily close for the next two weeks. The two-week period would put the closure past the originally-stated April 1 reopening date for Walt Disney World.

The earliest Disney World will be allowed to reopen is now April 10. Disney said on March 12 it would shut down its Orlando theme parks starting March 16 until April 1.
