TRON Lightcycle Run is roller coaster-style attraction that is currently under construction in the Tomorrowland section of Magic Kingdom next to Space Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway.
This new attraction will launch guests from zero to 60 miles per hour – the fastest for any Disney roller coaster – in a matter of seconds, sending them through over 3,169.3 feet of track atop two-wheeled Lightcycles into a mysterious computer game world inspired by the movie Tron: Legacy.
TRON Lightcycle Run is semi-enclosed in a canopy. This curved-wave structure serves as the “Upload Conduit to the Grid”, where guests will race beneath on the Lightcycles. The canopy features more than 1,200 fixtures across the surface that will be illuminated.
Guests waiting to board will have fun imagining the Grid as they listen to a remix of the themes created for Tron: Legacy by Daft Punk, most notably “The Grid” and “The Game has Changed”.
Originally, it was thought that TRON Lightcycle Run would be finished in late 2021, and in time for the start of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration in October. However, the ride is now projected to open in late 2022 or early 2023.
