The tallest building in Disney California Adventure Park houses a classic free-fall ride that is themed as the home base of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Opened on May 27, 2017, the 183-foot-high structure in the Hollywood Land section has been captured by Taneleer Tivan, the Collector, in his fortress. Guests join the intrepid Rocket, who has escaped, in an attempt to save his fellow Guardians. Guests experience a random free fall sensation with new visual and audio effects. The attraction takes the place of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
With incredible special effects, appearances by popular characters, music inspired by the soundtracks from the movies, thrilling free-fall drop sequences and 6 different storylines to experience, this adventure breaks out all the big thrills.
For the Halloween season, the attraction was transformed into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark.
Fun Facts:
- This attraction replaced the Disney California Adventure version of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
- When Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opened in 2017, it was the first time the Guardians of the Galaxy were seen in an attraction at a Disney park anywhere in the universe.
- If you look carefully in the queue line, you might find tributes to classic Disneyland attractions from the Matterhorn Bobsleds to the Country Bear Jamboree Vacation Hoedown.
- This attraction was developed with the help of the director at the helm of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, James Gunn.
