MagicBand+ will expand interactivity at Disney World

MagicBand+, the latest evolution of tech at Disney’s theme parks, will be available for Disney World guests this summer.

The wearable device is an upgrade of MagicBand with color-changing lights, haptic feedback (meaning it vibrates) and gesture recognition.

One of the new ways visitors can use the device is with the golden “Fab 50” character statues that sit throughout all four parks for Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration.

As visitors get close to one of the statues, MagicBand+ will start to vibrate and light up. Guests can also wave at the statues and the band will activate a sound or message from that character.

    Additional interactive features will include:

    • The ability to become a bounty hunter in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where guests will be able to find virtual bounties.
    • The MagicBand+ will light up in sync with new fireworks shows in the parks, including Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom and Harmonious at EPCOT!
    • Gesture Recognition: Disney shares that “your movement enables magical surprises!”

The original MagicBand was introduced in 2013 at Walt Disney World, allowing guests to go-hands free for things like park admission, hotel room entry, retail and dining.
