Pat Carroll, the Emmy award-winning actor and voice of the memorable Disney villain Ursula in The Little Mermaid, has died aged 95 of pneumonia at her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Patricia Ann Carroll was born May 5, 1927 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her family would move her to Los Angeles at age 5. Years later, she served as a civilian actress technician for the army during World War II.

In the years to follow, she then played characters across various television series, including the Jimmy Durante Show, The Danny Thomas Show, Laverne & Shirley and ER.

In 1989, Carroll portrayed Ursula in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, singing “Poor Unfortunate Souls.” She called the role one of her favorites, and reprised it in several other productions, including for video games like Kingdom Hearts, Disney theme park attractions, and the 1993 Little Mermaid CBS series.

Carroll is survived by her two daughters and a granddaughter.
