Understanding Disney’s new MagicBand+

Disney’s MagicBand is a hands-free device that has been around for nearly a decade and lets Walt Disney World Resort guests enter the parks, open their hotel rooms, charge food and merchandise purchases and more.

MagicBand+ is a new evolution of Disney’s MagicBand. MagicBand+ allows you to do everything that the old Magicband does, plus experience haptic vibrations with light pulses that bring experiences to life, customizable light patterns, gesture recognition for interactivity quests and games inside of the parks and more:

    • Link Tickets or Passes – Link your tickets and passes for an enhanced vacation.
    • Link Reservations – Link your park and dining reservations to your Disney account.
    • Lightning Lane Entry – If you purchase Lightning Lane entry, you can use your MagicBand+ to access Lightning Lane entrances.
    • Access Your Disney Resort – Unlock your Disney Resort hotel room door.

    Interactive Quests Around the Parks

One of the most exciting elements of MagicBand+ is the ability to participate in adventures by completing virtual quests. There are currently two options available:

Disney Fab 50 Quest: As part of its 50th Anniversary celebration, Walt Disney World has 50 golden character statues situated around all four theme parks — also known as the Fab 50 Character Collection. Wave your hand in front of each statue to have the statues greet you with a reaction like a catchphrase or a short musical tune. You can keep track of which characters you collect on the Play Disney Parks app.

Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters: An augmented reality mobile game that allows guests to play in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. The game uses the MagicBand+ and lead guests to “virtual bounties” around Galaxy’s Edge, which will be hidden behind locked doors and viewed virtually through the mobile Disney Parks app. When you’ve located your bounty, the MagicBand+ will glow purple. Guests will collect “galactic credits” for succeeding.

    How to Purchase the MagicBand+

MagicBand+ is officially available for purchase as of July 27th and will come in over 25 different designs. The MagicBand+ price starts at $34.99.

If you have a Walt Disney World Resort hotel reservation or an Annual Pass, you may receive a special discount on a customized MagicBand+. Resort Guests qualify for the discount 6 or more days prior to their Resort hotel reservation. Annual Passholders are eligible 6 or more days before their theme park reservation and redeem the discount once during the year of their Annual Pass.

    MagicBand+ Battery Life

The MagicBand+ comes with a rechargeable battery and a 6-inch USB charging cable. The battery can last an estimated 1 to 3 days, but really depends on how much you use it.

Even if your MagicBand+ battery is depleted, you can still use it for certain functions such as:

    • Park entry.
    • Lightning Lane entry.
    • Disney Resort room entry.
    • Disney Resort folio charging.
    • Disney PhotoPass photographer interactions and certain photo touch points.
