Understanding the Disney Parks Reservation System

During COVID-19 pandemic Disney started the parks reservation system. While many people believed this system would be temporary, it is looking like it will permanent.

Once you purchase a Walt Disney World theme park ticket, guests must then make a park reservation in advance. If you do not have a park reservation you will not be allowed into the park, even if you have a ticket.

Park Reservations are also limited. The system allows Disney to control the number of guests allowed into each park, each day. Meaning, some parks may have not availability on the specific dates you want to go. This availability depends on which type of guest is requesting a reservation (Resort Hotel Guests, Annual Passholders, or others with tickets).

Given the limited availability of park reservations, it is recommended that you make your theme park reservations immediately after purchasing your admission. You do not need to make a park reservation for a water park, however, reservation requirements are subject to change.

Reminder – To enter a Walt Disney World theme park, you will need a park reservation and valid admission for that park—for each day you’d like to visit.

Once you’ve purchased an admission ticket and checked availability, you can make Park Reservations on the My Disney Experience tab on the Disney World website.

    How To Make A Reservation

Once you know the date and park you’d like to go to, go to the My Disney Experience tab on the Disney World website. When you go to the park reservation system you will see a calendar of dates, some that are available, others that are not. If you have an annual pass, the blacked out dates will be unavailable. If the park reaches near capacity in the category you are in, it will most likely be unavailable.

    Steps to make a reservation:

    • Create your Park Reservation party by clicking on the friends and family who will be joining you at the park. (Everyone must have a park ticket.) Then click “Continue.”
    • Select a date and a theme park.
    • To complete your Park Reservation, click to agree to the Terms and Conditions, then click “Continue.”
    • You must repeat this process for every day that you want to obtain a Park Reservation.

Disneytap Tip: Check the website frequently and especially check the website around 7am the day you would like to go. Sometimes if the park really isn’t at capacity or there were cancellations and they will open up more reservations.
