Marvel has confirmed the X-Men ’97 reboot will premier on Disney+ in Fall 2023. It will mark the first official X-Men project at Marvel Studios since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox’s film and TV assets.
It’ll feature “new stories in the iconic ’90s timeline of the original series,” which ran for five seasons from 1992 to 1997
Set after the events of The Animated Series, X-Men ’97 will feature “new stories in the iconic ’90s timeline of the original series,” which ran for five seasons from 1992 to 1997. The X-Men will be led by Magneto, clad in a new helmetless costume inspired by his design in the first volume of New Mutants, when Magneto turned away from his villainous actions and joined the X-Men.
The show will also bring back other fan favorites, including Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Jubilee, and Cyclops. The designs are sticking true to the original looks from the 90s, but they’ll be a bit sharper.
Original showrunners Eric and Julia Lewald and original series director Larry Houston are on board as consultants for X-Men ’97. Beau DeMayo and Moon Knight will be the executive producer and writer. Almost all of the original voice actors will also return.
X-Men ‘97 will begin streaming exclusively on Disney+ in fall 2023.
